Ghanaian defender Razak Simpson has shared his excitement and pride after receiving a call-up to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, describing the opportunity as a “dream come true.”
The Nations FC captain is among a select group of Ghana Premier League players included in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the tournament, which will feature fierce West African rivals Ghana and Nigeria, alongside Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Unity Cup kicks off on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.
Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, Simpson couldn’t hide his emotion. “It’s a dream come true again for me to represent my nation,” he said. “This Unity Cup, for me personally, is a big move, and I have to put everything in God’s hands and go all out here.”
The 26-year-old defender revealed that growing up, the Nigeria vs Ghana rivalry was a fixture he never missed — and now being a part of it as a player is a surreal moment.
“I grew up watching Nigeria vs Ghana — the rivalry, the passion, the pride. To now be wearing the national jersey and facing Nigeria on that stage is something I’ve always dreamed of,” Simpson added.
Simpson is joined by fellow home-based players Benjamin Asare (Hearts of Oak), Kamaradini Mamudu (Medeama SC), and Kwame Opoku (Asante Kotoko) in the squad — a decision by coach Otto Addo that reflects growing faith in the domestic league’s talents.
Simpson has been a standout performer for Nations FC in the Ghana Premier League, where his leadership and defensive discipline have won him praise.
His selection is seen as a well-deserved reward for consistency and dedication to his craft.
The Black Stars’ clash with the Super Eagles is expected to be one of the highlights of the Unity Cup, reigniting a rivalry that dates back decades. For Simpson, it’s more than just a match — it’s an opportunity to make history.
“I can’t wait to get started. Representing Ghana is already a big honour, but doing so against Nigeria? That’s special,” he said.
With the eyes of the continent — and scouts from around the world — watching, Simpson hopes to help his nation triumph and possibly use the exposure to open new doors in his football career.
