Rangers International Football Club, Enugu, have announced the death of their Director of Media and Communications, Mr. Norbert Okolie, who passed away on 16 November 2025 after a period of illness.
The club described his death as a monumental loss to the Rangers family and the Nigerian football media landscape.

In an official statement, Rangers said Okolie served with unmatched dedication and professionalism, becoming an integral part of the club’s identity for many years. Known for his calm demeanour, attention to detail and deep passion for the sport, he was widely respected for the quality of his work and his unwavering commitment to telling the Rangers story.
Born on 23 September 1973, Okolie built an illustrious career as a journalist and photojournalist, covering multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the FIFA World Cup.
He remained active in his duties until shortly before his passing, reflecting the devotion that defined his service to the club and to Nigerian football.
Rangers General Manager and CEO, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, paid an emotional tribute in a series of messages, expressing shock and sorrow at his death.
“Photo”, you assured me a few days ago you would bounce back,” he wrote, using Okolie’s popular nickname. “Rest in peace, Norbert.
He also prayed for strength for the family during this difficult period, describing life as “a walking shadow.”
Tributes have continued to pour in from journalists, players, officials and media organisations across the country.
The Athletic NG hailed him as “a rare professional who raised the standard of football storytelling in Nigeria,” while sports journalist Mmenyeneabasi Akpan described him as “a selfless, steady presence who made the job easier for everyone.”
Rangers International FC said details of burial arrangements will be communicated after consultations with the family.
