Sports247 reports that Arokodare was attacked online by angry Wolves’ fans, who felt frustrated with how the tall Nigerian attacker failed to score a first half penalty during their team’s 1-0 loss away to Crystal Palace.
In the wake of the encounter, Arokodare returned home to find hate messages all over his inbox, following which he quickly raised an alarm and his club promised to report the content to various social media platforms.
The matter, though, has not ended there, as latest reports out of Queensland indicate that Arokadare’s complaint is one of four cases that the police in England are now investigating with utmost urgency.
A report by Tribal Football further disclosed, “Police said on Monday they are investigating abhorrent racist abuse directed online at four Premier League footballers last weekend.
“Wolves striker, Tolu Arokodare and Sunderland midfielder, Romaine Mundle were the latest players to be targeted on Sunday, with Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri suffering similar abuse on Saturday.
“Chief Constable Mark Roberts, the head of UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU), said: ‘There is absolutely no place for racial abuse, either online or in person, and anyone who believes they can hide behind their keyboards should think again.
“’The UKFPU condemns this abhorrent behaviour and we will ensure that, through our dedicated team of officers, we do everything possible to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.’”
