Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed overwhelming joy as Kwara United Football Club won the 2025 President’s Federation Cup — the first time any team from the state has lifted the prestigious trophy since its creation in 1967.
The Harmony Boys clinched the title after a dramatic 4–3 penalty shootout win over Abakaliki FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

“I’m overwhelmed with joy as I joined Harmony Boys of Kwara United this evening in Lagos to bring home the 2025 President Federation Cup — the first time any team from our state has ever won the prestigious trophy since 1967,” the governor said in a statement.
He praised the players, coaching crew, management, the Kwara State Sports Commission, and the supporters’ club, and extended appreciation to Kwarans in the diaspora for their support. He described the win as a reflection of “team spirit, discipline, determination, and grit.”
Governor AbdulRazaq also celebrated another major milestone for the state — the emergence of Kwara’s contingent as national champions in the Senior President School Debate Competition, marking the state’s first-ever win at that level. This follows a three-time winning streak by Kwara pupils in the junior category under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
“These victories are not a coincidence,” the governor stated. “They are deserving fruits of hard work and strategic investments in youth development, sports, education, and other key sectors of the economy.”
He congratulated all Kwarans at home and abroad, affirming the state’s commitment to sustaining its momentum in sports, education, and youth empowerment.
