Ikeja football coaches council chairman, Tunde Adeshina has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to encourage better and proper preparation for our representatives to enable greater successes.
Speaking after the World Cup playoff defeat against DR. Congo, Adeshina advised the NFF to ensure proper motivation, early camping and stable logistics should be prioritized to create a focused and disciplined atmosphere for the upcoming AFCON in 2026 to revive the disappointment of not qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.

“The Nigerian players must remain disciplined, united and determined, realising the AFCON represents not only a chance to redeem what was lost but also an opportunity to restore national pride.” he said.
Coach Adeshina as he was fondly called emphasized that challenges facing the nation’s football teams stem from years of decline in grassroots football development, weakened structure leads to reduction of technically sound players. In addition, age cheating, inconsistent coaching and poor administrative planning.
According to Coach Adeshina, Nigeria’s football has lost direction years back. He highlighted some major challenges which includes; “Financial constraints that have also played a major role alongside ‘mode of selecting the players’ and the players selected attitude towards the mission at hand’
“Mainly, putting the right peg in the right role will be a better solution to appointing coaches who always upgrade their respective curriculum vitae with the nations job. The same direction goes to who is charged to lead the federation too.” – You can’t give what you don’t have, he added.
He further expresses his concern on how to fix these problems to move the nation forward, he urged the Nigeria Football Federation to start the changes off the field before setting a viable direction for the on-field situation.
Stable administrative planning to guarantee consistent policies will improve funding and players welfare, including adequate facilities, equipment and support services.
He concluded by advising the NFF to go back to the drawing board and look into what paved the way in the past to reshape the future. With well registered football academies, a standard league to keep them in shape as there is no shortcuts to success.
