Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium took full advantage of Victor Osimhen’s absence for Galatasaray of Turkey and their Nigerian-born striker, Promise David Akinpelu got the only goal for a famous away victory Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
Sports247 reports that Akinpelu, who was born in the Bramptpn district of Ontario, Canada, was the undisputed hero, as his 57th minute goal gave the less fancied visitors from Belgium maximum points in Istanbul.

Aside netting the back breaking sizzler against Osimhen’s club, Akinpelu (popularly known as Promise David and played two games for Nigeria’s under-23 national team before switching allegiance to Canada) was also a thorn in the flesh of the hosts, who had a player sent off.
Akinpelu’s lone goal kept alive a strange record, as Union Saint-Gilloise’s past three European wins have also all come away from home and they kept the myth going on Tuesday.
David scored the only goal in Istanbul to end his team’s three-game losing run in the UCL, as he sprang smartly forwaard to sweep home Adem Zorgane’s cutback in one of few chances created by either of the squads, though they both hit the woodwork in the first half.
A report by BBC Sport added: “Galatasaray lacked cutting edge in the absence of the injured Victor Osimhen, who with six goals is the top scorer in the Champions League this season.
“Former Manchester City players Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane had quiet evenings, as did former Inter Milan and Paris St-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.”
