His achievement came on a morning defined by the early arrival and strong presence of the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), who once again demonstrated their commitment to supporting elite competitions in the country.
NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, arrived at the finish zone well ahead of schedule — a gesture that energized runners, organisers, and volunteers. Their punctuality symbolised the Commission’s renewed passion for upgrading road races and promoting Nigeria as a credible hub for international sporting events.
Both leaders made their way straight to the athletes’ area, engaging runners and warmly congratulating finishers as they crossed the line. Their appearance further highlighted the national importance of a race that has now earned World Athletics Bronze Label status, a historic achievement for a marathon only in its second edition.
They later saluted the efforts of every Nigerian participant and praised Shehu Adamu for his memorable outing, describing him as “a symbol of the new era of Nigerian long-distance running.”
The PremiumTrust Bank Abuja Half Marathon once again showcased world-class organisation, elite competition, and inspiring moments — with Shehu Adamu’s triumph as the first Nigerian finisher standing out as one of the day’s defining highlights.
