A live performance by controversial Afrobeats crossover star, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus (aka Portable) and fun games for children organised by ProStar Sports International brought a thrilling end to this year’s Nigerian National League (NNL) Super-4 at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
Sports247 reports that the last matchday in the competition turned out to be remarkably different from the other two before it, as a large number of spectators turned up to watch the ‘final’ and what many observers tagged an unprecedented crowd filled the stadium owned by Honourable Kunle Soname.
Although the prospect of seeing ‘Portable’ perform live appeared to be the biggest lure that brought in a multitude of fans from various locations within Ikenne and environs, there was also the aura of talents on display for the match of the day.
While Ranchers Bees of Kaduna swarmed back from two straight defeats to sting Doma United of Gombe 3-1 on the training pitch in the day’s other game, the main attraction had to be the Lagos derby in the mainbowl, as the top teams locked horns.
It ended with Inter Lagos FC snatching a consolatory 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos, which was just good enough to fetch Coach Ganiyu Shakiru’s team silver medals, while their rivals got gold and the winners’ prize of N10m.
With action on the pitch wrapped up, it was time for presentation of medals, awards and cash to top performers at the Super-4 and the NNL’s regular season, but all children at the venue never bothered to watch those formalities, as they were kept busy playing ProStar’s kiddie games behind the arena.
With the presentations done and dusted in the mainbowl, ‘Portable’ took over and thrilled the crowd with a frenetic performance, which he capped by picking three lucky numbers for winners in the much-expected NNL Super-4 raffle draw.
At the end of it all, one of the spectators told Sports247, “There was nothing apart from football to watch here on Monday and Wednesday, but we all knew that the final will be very exciting.”
