Politics is like the game of football. When the players play on the field of the match, they play as if they are sworn enemies, but for the purpose of playing it to win for their economic survival interest only. But immediately after the competition, they hug themselves and exchange handshake pleasantries to show that it was just a game.
They move away from the field of play to continue to relate and fraternise as people in the same industry.
And during the transfer window period, they leave their clubs to play in the clubs they play against yesterday and still continue to play matches like that to win for their own self-survival and interest opportunities.
Outside the game of play, they see themselves as footballers, who must continue to relate as friends for the survival of their careers.
That is why Messi or Ronaldo, who played against Barcelona yesterday is now a member of the Barcelona or Real Madrid team playing against the clubs where they were playing yesterday and so on like that.
So, anybody who understands this reality, won’t be playing politics to keep building sworn or permanent enemies outside the field of the electoral marches and competition play.
However, when they say there are no permanent enemies in politics, but permanent interest, I agree in-to-to with that theoretical assertion. Of course, that is the way it is supposed to be.
Just the same way there are no permanent enemies in the game of sports, so also there shouldn’t be permanent friends in the game of politics.
It is just a game of individual interests to serve our country in public service for the purpose of the better running and development of our dear country.
Ignorance is it, when you are in politics and all you are doing is, playing it to build sworn permanent enemies – It is a sheer lack of ideal human relation character and acute ignorance. After all, you can’t govern to rule forever.
When the game is over, your good relationship with other players outside the field of play must always continue to sustain your goodwill, prominence, and relevance in the polity.
You don’t play politics to destroy all or die in the game. Every game has a competitive purpose and every politics must also go like that. The purpose is merely to win elections to serve your people and society.
It should never be a do-or-die affair!
Football is a game of economic survival to win trophies for the competition, so also is politics as well. The purpose is to play it to get the constitutional power to serve the people. That is the way it should be run.
My friends are my friends, politics or not! And my contenders can’t be my enemies.
That is not my own definition of politics!
Politics of humane sportsmanship; progressive civility; exceptional ideas and genuine intention to serve the people optimally, impactfully, and satisfactorily should govern and run Nigeria.
Politics is not war!”
