Players union commiserates with Bendel Insurance on goalkeeper’s death

Nigerian football has been thrown into another bout of mourning as NPFL side Bendel Insurance lost its goalkeeper, Umar Ahmad Jalingo after a brief illness.

According to a statement credited to the team’s media, Kehinde Osagiede, the player was discharged from the hospital, Wednesday, before his death this morning (Thursday).

In a quick reaction to the sad news, the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF, in statement signed by its NANPF’s President, Tijani Babangida, MON, and released by its General Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo, it described the news as sad and unfortunate.

Particularly, coming few weeks after the death of NNL Chairman and NFF’s executive member, Chief Chidi Ofo Okenwa, the foremost players’ union stated that the sombre situations calls for deep self reflections and rededication to the service of humanity.

” We commiserates with the management of Bendel Insurance, the state government, players and officials of the team on the unexpected death of Umar Ahmad Jalingo.

” We also pray that God will grant the family he left behind, his friends and associates, the fortitude to bear the huge loss,” NANPF stated.

The player who left a wife and four children behind had since been buried according Muslim rites.
