Former Nigerian international Bright Omokaro has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can achieve success at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, insisting that determination, unity and hard work among the players will be the key factors.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Omokaro stressed that while coaches and administrators have roles to play, the responsibility ultimately lies with the players on the pitch.
“The players are the main actors. If they are determined and work hard for one another, they can make it happen,” Omokaro said.
The former international noted that he is not concerned about the presence of five debutants in the squad, dismissing fears that inexperience could negatively affect the team’s chances.
“I am not worried about the new players at all. As long as they can contribute positively and help the team achieve success, they should be encouraged,” he added.
Omokaro explained that AFCON has often provided a platform for new players to announce themselves, pointing out that many past Nigerian stars made their breakthrough appearances at the continental tournament.
“AFCON is a stage where players grow quickly. If they are confident and supported by the senior players, they can perform,” he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of teamwork, warning that individual brilliance alone will not be enough in a competition as demanding as AFCON.
“No player can do it alone. The teams that succeed are the ones that fight together, defend together and attack together,” Omokaro said.
The former defender urged the coaching crew to ensure that the new players are properly integrated into the squad, both tactically and mentally.
“They need guidance and trust. When players feel trusted, they give more,” he noted.
Omokaro concluded by calling on Nigerians to support the team regardless of doubts or criticism, insisting that belief from fans could play a crucial role.
“Support the boys. With unity on and off the pitch, Nigeria can go far in Morocco,” he said.
