Plateau United will contest for the Nigeria Professional Football League title this season. —Coach Abdu Maikaba

Head coach of Plateau United Football Club of Jos, Abdu Maikaba says his team will contest for the Nigeria Professional Football League title this season.

Maikaba stated this shortly after his team piped the Green Barret football team of the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Jos one-nil in a friendly tie at the Maxwell Khobe barracks.

The coach who was delighted with the performance of his boys despite the poor star of the pitch noted that his boys are now sixty to seventy percent fit with barely a week to the kick off of the NPFL slated for the third of November.

He disclosed that after recruiting some fresh legs to strengthen the team following the departure of those deemed surplus to requirement, the team is now fitting into his plans for the season ahead.

The Flying Eagles assistant coach used the occasion to appealed to the club teeming fans to rally round the team for support in the new season stressing that they have a vital role to play in propelling the team to victory.

Plateau United have so far played seventeen warm up matches involving premier league teams and non league sides, winning fourteen and drawing three in the process.

The twenty seventeen NPFL champions have so far signed in nineteen players to beef up the team that narrowly escaped relegation at the end of last season.
