Plateau United 1-1 Rivers United: How It Happened

BY Mayuku Charles, Media Officer Rivers United FC

Kunle Odunlami and goalkeeper Abiodun Akande were the star performers as Plateau United came from behind to draw 1-1 against 10 man Rivers United at the New Jos Stadium in a rescheduled NPFL matchday 10 fixture.

Chika Godwin put the “Pride of Rivers” in front in the 17th minutes of the match with a fine finish from Godwin Aguda’s excellent assist. Chika Godwin however was sent off two minutes into added time as he was adjudged to have stepped on a Plateau United defender.

It wasn’t a fair reflection of the first half – but it was probably a fair reflection of the match.

The Stanley Eguma tutored side looked good with 10 men on the return of the second half – but they let it slip when Plateau United were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute for ball handling. Ibrahim Mustapha stepped up to beat impressive Abiodun Akande from 12 yards to leave scores at 1-1.

Plateau United probably deserves to be level but, in fairness, they gave Rivers United problems after the equalizer, and even more before the final whistle.
