Philip Shaibu Receives Confirmation For Pro-Wrestling Award On May 3rd in Lagos

The director-general of National Institute for Sports (NIS), Honourable Philip Shaibu has been confirmed as recipient of a prestigious special recognition award from Pro-Wrestling Africa (PWA), billed to take place in Lagos on May 3rd.

Sports247 gathered that the former deputy governor of Edo State will be presented with the International Royal Award for Pro -Wrestling Excellence (IRAWE) at the NIS Gymnasium Hall, inside Lagos National Stadium complex, Surulere.

PWA’s secretary-general, Ambassador Olusesan Olukoya disclosed that the presentation will be done as part of activities for the Continental Wrestling Championship (CWC) on the same date.

Olukoya further said the award is in recognition of Shaibu’s support for sports development in Nigeria, commitment to youth empowerment through athletics and contributions to sports administration in the country.

“This global award has been approved by the Allied Independent Wrestling Federations (AIWF), based in NC, USA; a long-standing America-based professional wrestling sanctioning body and alliance.

“It is an alliance which acts as a global network, supporting over 150 independent promotions across 60 countries, focusing on talent development and promoting independent wrestling,” Olukoya expatiated.

The PWA scribe also pointed out that singling out Shaibu for recognition reflects the organization’s commitment to celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to sports development and youth empowerment in Africa.

“Comrade Philip Shaibu has shown remarkable dedication to the advancement of sports and youth development. His commitment to empowering athletes and strengthening sporting structures in Nigeria makes him a deserving recipient of this honour,” Olukoya concluded.

Sports247 gathered further that PWA is a continental body dedicated to the promotion, development and organization of professional wrestling, while also providing opportunities for African wrestlers.

It is also a confederation of African professional wrestling bodies that engages in building partnerships with international wrestling promotions to expand the reach of the sport on the continent.
