Kimiakigha Peremobere Joy emerged as the standout star for Team Edo, spearheading a dominant display in the pool at the ongoing Niger Delta Games.
Joy set the tone for the host state with a commanding victory in the women’s 100m freestyle, combining explosive speed with flawless technique to clinch gold. Her confident performance not only electrified the home crowd but also established momentum for Team Edo’s impressive medal run.
She later returned to play a crucial role in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, teaming up with Nkonye Ziitaven, Ifelouwa Fumilayo and Lucky Ayeni.
The quartet produced a spirited comeback performance, digging deep in the closing stages to secure another gold medal for the state.
Team Edo’s dominance extended beyond Joy’s brilliance. Mary Dimeji delivered a composed and tactically sound swim to win gold in the 400m freestyle, while Kolade Otunla showcased versatility by capturing the 100m backstroke title after contributing to the men’s 4x400m medley relay gold-winning team alongside Albert Akintokun, Biloha Simeon and Precious Tissa.
However, it was Peremobere Joy’s leadership in the pool that symbolized Edo’s strength and ambition. With multiple gold medals secured and the crowd firmly behind them, Team Edo continues to stamp its authority on the Games — and Joy remains at the heart of that golden charge.
