Uganda’s Patience Anyango and Joseph Sebatindira emerged as standout stars at the 2025 ITTF Africa Hopes Week & Challenge in Lagos, clinching top honours and securing qualification for the World Hopes Week & Challenge in Sheffield, England.
Anyango successfully defended her girls’ title, showcasing her dominance once again on the continental stage.

On the boys’ side, Sebatindira improved on his 2024 performance, stepping up from runner-up to champion in a commanding display.
Egypt continued its strong tradition in youth table tennis, with Zaki Malak and Sheba Goudy finishing second and third respectively in the girls’ division. Algeria’s Ritadj Djelloul also impressed with a solid performance just outside the medal positions.
Host nation Nigeria celebrated a strong showing in the boys’ category, as Samson Joshua and Ayoola Umar secured second and third place finishes.
Tunisia’s Sahraoui Iyed completed the boys’ podium, underlining the depth of talent across the continent.
The event was further elevated by the presence of renowned coach Eva Jeler, who led the technical programme as Head Coach, while Ramzi Mabrouk, ITTF Development Programmes Manager from Tunisia, coordinated the event on behalf of the International Table Tennis Federation.
A total of 14 girls and 17 boys from across Africa participated in the intensive week-long programme, which combined world-class training with high-level competition.
The ITTF Africa Hopes Week in Lagos proved to be a vital platform for nurturing emerging talent, fostering technical growth, and promoting the future of table tennis on the continent.
