In a ceremony filled with pride and celebration, the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), in partnership with Parallex Bank, honoured four outstanding Team Lagos athletes for their exceptional performances at the 8th National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State.
The award presentation took place at the Parallex Bank Headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event was graced by the Director General of the LSSC, Lekan Fatodu, Managing Director of Parallex Bank, Dr. Femi Bakre, alongside senior management staff from both organizations.
Addressing the gathering, Fatodu commended the athletes for their dedication, discipline, and the glory they brought to Lagos State.
“These young champions represent the future of Nigerian sports. Their hard work and commitment mirror the values Lagos stands for—excellence, resilience, and leadership. We are proud of their achievements and even more committed to supporting their journey,” he said.
Dr. Bakre echoed this sentiment, reaffirming Parallex Bank’s dedication to youth empowerment and sports development. “We believe in the power of sport to transform lives. Supporting these young athletes is part of our broader mission to invest in the next generation of Nigerian leaders,” he noted.
The awardees included:
Chioma Kanu – Gold medalist in 50m freestyle swimming
Isiaka Ibrahim – Gold medalist in the cycling individual point race
Rabiu Aishat – Multi-medalist in table tennis, including gold in girls’ doubles
Funmilayo Beauty Oyero – The 9-year-old golfing prodigy who won silver
These athletes were part of the formidable Team Lagos squad that clinched 66 medals in total—26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze—cementing the state’s position as a powerhouse in Nigerian youth sports.
The partnership between LSSC and Parallex Bank also seeks to enhance athlete welfare through innovative financial support systems and development opportunities.
The recognition ceremony not only celebrated past achievements but also reaffirmed the state’s resolve to nurture future champions through sustained investment in grassroots sports.
