The state’s deputy governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, who heads the main organising committee (MOC), inaugurated his group as well as the local organising committee (LOC), alongside the commissioner for sports, Nwaobilor Ananaba, on behalf of Governor Alex Otti in the state capital, Umuahia.

While basking in the euphoria of the epochal development, Orbih enthused that he has seen early signs of success for the two competitions – 1st Abia State para-badminton International Championship from September 30 to October 5, and All-Africa Para-badminton Championship from October 6 to October 12.

Orbih disclosed, “We are very excited about this inauguration. It clearly demonstrates the Abia State governor’s commitment to sports development. Not just in Abia State, but in Nigeria as a whole.”

The BFN boss went on to express optimism that both competitions will be organised successfully and flawlessly, to set new marks for Nigeria in general and Abia State in particular.

“The board is excited about this partnership, and we are confident that, with this level of support, the Abia championships will be landmark events … well organised, impactful and inspiring to our young athletes.

“We look forward to working with both committees to deliver world-class tournaments,” Orbih submitted.
