Painful! Nigeria Narrowly Misses Out of Semifinals at 2025 Kwibuka T20i Tournament

Nigeria’s Women’s Cricket Team, Female Yellow Greens fell agonizingly short of a semifinal spot at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20i Tournament in Rwanda, Sports247 reports.

The team finished sixth in the group standings as the competition’s preliminary stage wrapped up on Thursday.

Despite a late surge in form and an overall strong campaign that saw them record five wins from eight matches, the Nigerian side missed out on the top four by a narrow margin.

With 10 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.525, Nigeria was edged out by Tanzania Women, who clinched the fourth and final semifinal berth with a slightly superior Net Run Rate.

Host nation Rwanda Women emerged as the dominant force in the group stage, topping the table with 14 points and an impressive NRR of +1.387.

Uganda Women (12 points) and Zimbabwe HPC Women (10 points) also secured semifinal spots with consistent performances throughout the tournament.

The Kwibuka T20i Tournament, now a key fixture on the African women’s cricket calendar, honours the memory of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

Beyond competition, the event promotes healing, unity, and regional cooperation through sport.

Although Nigeria’s campaign ended prematurely, the team displayed resilience and progress, particularly in their batting depth and bowling combinations. Coaches and players have expressed optimism about building on this experience in upcoming international fixtures.

The semifinals are set to take place this weekend with Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe HPC, and Tanzania battling for a place in the final.
