Oyerinde: Nigerian Squash Has Grown In 2018

The president of Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), Boye Oyerinde is taking stock of the body’s programmes for the outgoing year, and says they achieved a lot in 2018.

While setting marks for the new year, sports247.ng can report that Oyerinde believes 2019 will better across all cards than 2018 has been.

Oyerinde said board had achieved a lot in 18 months, adding that they had been able to identify squash facilities in the country and would ensure that they were made functional.

He promised more efforts in the technical and monitoring units of the federation, as they aim to gather details of talents that emerged in the various competitions of 2018, including the National Sports Festival.

Oyerinde further stated that the best eight players from the sports festival in Abuja will be invited to the squash national team.

The squash boss also pointed out that the festival was an opportunity to discover more hidden talents, which he promised will now be harnessed for greater exploits in future.

He added: “Prior to the festival, we had our ranking; we know how our players are seeded and the quality of players we have.

“In the last couple of weeks, we had another tournament for the seniors, which was in Lagos.

“All these results will be collated by the technical committee. We will review it and do the ranking that will show us the best of the players.

“The best eight will go into the national team. The federation has been able to form a data base of its athletes and coaches.”
