Oyede: KwibukaT20I Was Crucial Tune‑Up Ahead of ICC Qualifiers

Nigeria’s women’s cricket head coach Leke Oyede says the recent KwibukaT20i 2025 tournament in Kigali provided a valuable barometer for the Yellow-Greens as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Namibia this August.

Despite finishing with five wins and three losses—narrowly missing out on the semifinals—Oyede stressed that the competition helped him evaluate squad depth and individual form ahead of a busy qualification schedule.

“In terms of preparation, we basically did some camping, training assessment,” Oyede explained.

“We also used recent domestic activities in Nigeria—like the National Sports Festival, state championships, and the PWC tournament—in selecting the team.

We factored in past international experience as well. But majorly, this Kwibuka was an assessment for us to know where we are and where we can work on going forward for the ICC qualifier in Namibia in August.”

Oyede said the blend of home‑based performances and veteran leadership gave his side both fresh talent and steadiness under pressure.

He now plans targeted training camps and high‑intensity practice matches to sharpen skills before the crucial qualifier in Windhoek.

With a clear roadmap drawn from lessons learned in Rwanda, the Yellow‑Greens aim to convert hard‑won experience into a first-ever global tournament berth—a feat that would mark a historic milestone for Nigerian women’s cricket.
