Former Nigerian youth international Chidi Osuchukwu has called on the Flying Eagles to start their FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign on a winning note, stressing the importance of momentum in tournament football. Nigeria begins their group campaign later today against Norway.
Osuchukwu, who once represented Nigeria at youth level, believes victory in the opening game could set the tone for success in the competition.

“It is always important to start well,” Osuchukwu said. “The first game can determine how far you go in a tournament like this. A win gives you confidence, and it also sends a message to your opponents that you mean business.”
The midfielder, who currently plies his trade in Eastern Europe, urged the team not to underestimate any side, highlighting the need for discipline and focus.
“There should be no room for complacency. Every team here has quality, and if you take them lightly, you could be punished. My advice to the boys is to take it one game at a time and play with intensity,” he warned.
Nigeria has a proud record at U-20 level, having reached two finals in 1989 and 2005, though they fell short on both occasions. Osuchukwu believes the current squad has enough talent to emulate and possibly surpass those achievements.
“I have seen the quality in this squad, and I think they can go far. They should just keep believing and working hard. Nigerians are behind them,” he concluded.
The Flying Eagles face Norway in a match many see as pivotal to their chances of advancing from the group stage. A win would boost their confidence ahead of tougher fixtures.
