Osimhen’s Startling Revelation: My Biggest Joy At AFCON 2025 Was How We Made Nigerians Smile

Galatasaray of Turkey striker Victor Osimhen has once again refuted talk about his desperation for personal glory, as he disclosed that the biggest joy he had from the recent Africa Cup of Nations is how the Super Eagles made Nigerians smile.

Sports247 gathered that, in contrast with recurring speculation that Osimhen was desperate to be crowned highest scorer at AFCON 2025, where he finished second with four goals, the hitman insisted he played to make the fans happy.

He pointed out that all players in the Nigerian squad played their hearts out at AFCON 2025, in order to make their fans happy, after the team’s inability to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

Osimhen added, “We’ve been able to win back our fans, and we made them know that their support hasn’t been in vain. They are the reason why we are fighting on the pitch, and we’re giving everything to make them happy.

“We gave our best to make sure we bring glory to our country, and I’m proud of the team. I’m proud that we brought our fans back, and we got some amazing comments from people who really love football.”

The 2023 African Footballer of The Year, who was Nigeria’s assistant captain at the championship, thanked all his pals in the Eagles, as well as their coaches and backroom staff, for the roles they all played in the squad’s third place achievement.

“It was something to be proud of, because a lot of people initially gave up on this team. So, I am really happy that we achieved what we did in Morocco.

“The unity of the players, plus the ideas of our coaches and staff, helped us bring smiles back to the faces of our fans.

“I am really happy about this and, from where this came, there’s more to come,” assured the former star of VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Racing Charleroi of Belgium, Lille Metropole of France and SSC Napoli of Italy.
