Osimhen Says Super Eagles Are ‘Inspired And Unstoppable’ Ahead Of DR Congo Playoff Final

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says Nigeria will storm into Sunday’s World Cup playoff final against DR Congo with renewed confidence, insisting the players are “inspired” by their dramatic 4–1 extra-time victory over Gabon in Rabat.

Osimhen, who scored twice in extra time to take his Nigeria tally to 31 goals, admitted he was disappointed to miss a big chance in regulation time but revealed that he never doubted he would redeem himself. According to him, staying mentally strong was the key to turning the game around.

Speaking after the match, the Galatasaray forward said the entire squad has now shifted full focus to Sunday’s decisive showdown, emphasising that qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has become a personal mission for the team. He added that missing out on the 2022 World Cup still “hurts deeply” and that the Eagles are determined to ensure the mistake is not repeated.

Osimhen also used the opportunity to thank Nigerians worldwide for their support, insisting their prayers and encouragement lifted the team during a difficult period which included pre-match tensions over unpaid bonuses.

“It wasn’t the ideal build-up, but we proved what this team is made of,” he said. “We are inspired, we are united, and we know what is at stake. Sunday is another battle and we will give everything.”

He praised teammates Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke for their goals and applauded the resilience shown by the squad after Gabon pushed the tie to extra time with a last-minute equaliser.

Looking ahead, Osimhen said DR Congo will present a completely different challenge, but insisted Nigeria’s quality and mentality can carry the team over the line.

“We respect DR Congo, but we fear no one,” he said. “We have the momentum now and the full belief that we can finish the job.
