Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor Osimhen has brushed off a ‘lone ranger’ status that he has been tagged with on account of his battling efforts in the Super Eagles’ attack across recent years.

Sports247 reports that fresh debate has emerged about his desperation after the 2023 African Footballer of The Year appearing frustrated for failing to hit target in Nigeria’s first match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Statistics show that Osimhen has now failed to score in nine AFCON matches, and his emotions appeared to spill over when he was captured on television confronting one of the Eagles’ officials after the game.

That created frenzy on social media, with many fans accusing him of considering himself as the lone man to lean on when goals are needed in the squad, as was the case when they fell apart against DR Congo in the World Cup play-off final.

However, the former Ultimate Strikers of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Racing Charleroi of Belgium, Lille Metropole of France and SSC Napoli of Italy striker said he simply tries giving his best for Nigeria as a whole.

Osimhen, who will celebrate his 27th birthday two days after the Eagles battle Tunisia in their second group game at AFCON 2025 retorted, “I just try to give my everything.

“We have so many talented players in this squad. I’m trying to give everything because everyone knows me like this. I try to run, get goals and fight for my teammates.

“I appreciate all my teammates for giving me this opportunity to try to get goals for them. They try to listen to me, and I also listen to them. It’s a mutual respect.”
