During the visit, Ighalo’s mother offered emotional prayers for Osimhen, asking for continued success in his career and specifically blessing his legs against injuries.
The gesture underscored the strong family values often shared among Nigerian footballers.
Both players share roots in Edo State and similar upbringing stories, having honed their football skills on the streets of Lagos—Osimhen in Olusosun and Ighalo in Ajegunle—before rising to international prominence.
Osimhen, who is currently on a short break from his Turkish club Galatasaray S.K., has been in Nigeria following a demanding run of fixtures.
The visit comes shortly after an emotional moment in Istanbul, where Galatasaray fans paid tribute to the striker’s late mother, Christianah, ahead of a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool F.C.
The supporters unveiled a giant banner featuring Osimhen and his mother with the message, “We are family, and family is everything.”
The 27-year-old was visibly moved by the gesture, shedding tears before going on to deliver an assist in Galatasaray’s 1–0 victory.
Osimhen has enjoyed an impressive 2025–26 campaign, playing a key role for both club and country, with notable contributions in the Turkish Süper Lig, UEFA Champions League, and the Africa Cup of Nations.
