Both Super Eagles forwards have played crucial roles for their clubs this season, helping them progress to the knockout stage of Europe’s elite club competition while continuing to set impressive individual records.
Osimhen, who features for Turkish champions Galatasaray, has been in outstanding form and remains one of the most dangerous strikers in the tournament.
The Nigerian forward is on the verge of making history as he prepares to face Liverpool FC in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash at RAMS Park in Istanbul.
The 27-year-old is set to make his 26th appearance in the Champions League, surpassing the previous Nigerian record of 25 appearances held by Ahmed Musa.
If Galatasaray advance to the quarter-finals, Osimhen could also go past the 28 appearances recorded by Zaidu Sanusi in the competition.
Beyond the appearance milestone, Osimhen is also closing in on another notable record.
He has scored seven goals in this season’s Champions League and needs just one more to equal the eight-goal record set by former Galatasaray striker Burak Yılmaz for the most goals in a single Champions League season by a player representing the Turkish club.
The prolific striker heads into the encounter in superb form. His decisive header in Galatasaray’s 1–0 derby victory over Beşiktaş JK at the weekend extended his remarkable run of goal contributions in the Turkish Super Lig.
Across all competitions this season, Osimhen has registered 18 goals and six assists in 26 appearances.
Meanwhile, Lookman continues to make waves in Europe after sealing a January 2026 move from Atalanta BC to Spanish giants Atlético Madrid. The winger has maintained his impressive form following the transfer and remains a key attacking option for the La Liga side.
Lookman has already achieved a rare feat this season by scoring in the Champions League for two different clubs, becoming only the fifth player in the competition’s history to accomplish the milestone within the same campaign.
The 2024 African Footballer of the Year has delivered several standout performances in Europe, including a goal and an assist against SK Sturm Graz and a key contribution in Atlético Madrid’s clash with Club Brugge KV.
As the knockout phase intensifies, Lookman’s Atlético Madrid will face a stern test against Tottenham Hotspur FC in their bid for a place in the quarter-finals.
With both forwards enjoying strong campaigns and carrying Nigeria’s hopes on the European stage, attention will be firmly on Osimhen and Lookman as they seek to scale new heights in the Champions League knockout rounds.
