Bassey, who enjoyed an impressive AFCON campaign with Nigeria, is yet to start a match for Fulham since returning from the tournament.
The defender was an unused substitute in Fulham’s recent clash against Everton, a situation Oshaniwa described as unfortunate and disappointing.
“The situation is too pathetic, and it is a very bad one,” Oshaniwa said.
“Talk about someone that just finished a big tournament like AFCON, the best tournament on the African continent, having a brilliant outing, and coming back to his club to find himself in that situation. It is not a good one at all.”
Despite his concerns, Oshaniwa urged Bassey not to allow the setback affect his mentality, encouraging him to remain focused and committed.
“He shouldn’t be downcast. He should put up his head and keep moving, even in training,” he added.
“He just needs to keep working and wait for his chance.”
Oshaniwa believes that persistence and professionalism will eventually pay off for the Fulham defender, stressing that such phases are part of a footballer’s career, especially after returning from major international tournaments.
Bassey remains an important figure for the Super Eagles, and his performances at AFCON have reinforced his quality, with many expecting him to regain a regular place at club level in due course.
