Oshaniwa, who represented Nigeria at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, believes Fernandez possesses the qualities required to succeed at international level.

The 35-year-old, who joined Heart of Midlothian in 2015, noted that the defender’s performances in Scotland have prepared him well for the demands of national team football.

Speaking in comments reported by Glasgow Times, Oshaniwa expressed confidence in Fernandez’s seamless integration into the squad under head coach Eric Chelle.

“It’s clear Emmanuel Fernandez will be a valuable addition to the national team,” Oshaniwa said. “His strong performances didn’t surprise me because I know the Scottish league is very competitive.

“Playing in such an environment has helped shape him into a player capable of handling international football. The league is physically demanding and tactically disciplined, which makes him well-suited to the challenges of the Super Eagles setup.”

Fernandez’s rise has drawn attention, with his consistent displays positioning him as a key option in Nigeria’s defensive setup.

Oshaniwa, however, emphasized that the national team remains a work in progress, with the integration of new players seen as part of a broader rebuilding process.

“We are still developing, and bringing in players like Fernandez adds fresh energy and healthy competition within the squad,” he added.

At club level, Fernandez could also be on course for silverware, as Rangers continue their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.

Although they currently trail Oshaniwa’s former side, Heart of Midlothian, by three points, the title race remains open.

For Fernandez, both club and country present significant opportunities, and with strong backing from experienced voices like Oshaniwa, expectations will continue to rise as he looks to make a lasting impact on the international stage.
