Osaze De Rosario Provides Sensational Assist In Victory For Seattle Sounders

Largely unknown Nigerian-born striker, Osaze Tafari De Rosario got one of the assists that helped his side grab a resounding victory on the first day of the new season in USA’s Major League Soccer (MLS), Sports247 reports.

De Rosario got off Sounders’ bench in the second half and his impact quickly made a huge world of difference, as he combined pretty well with fellow-substitute, Paul Rothrock to sink Colorado Rapids.

It was De Rosario’s neat pass that helped Rothrock notch a goal after replacing an injured Jordan Morris early in the first half and Seattle Sounders beat The Rapids 2-0 during a rainy season opener.

Seattle lost Morris to a noncontact injury in the eighth minute and Rothrock had a foot in staking Sounders to a 1-0 lead soon after when he hustled to keep the ball in play to also set up an assist for Albert Rusnák.

Hassani Dotson, who signed as a free agent after seven seasons with Minnesota United, appeared to score three minutes later in his Sounders debut but had it waived off for a foul after a video review.

Dotson then took a blow to the head and was replaced by 18-year-old Snyder Brunell in the 15th minute of stoppage time as the 1-0 lead in the first half, during which Colorado had four players tagged with yellow cards.

After the restart, Rothrock used assists from Jesús Ferreira and Osaze De Rosario in the 62nd minute to score an insurance sizzler for Seattle, as he struck his 11th goal in 65 career appearances.

Sports247 reports further that the 24-year-old Osaze, who was born in the United States, is the son of former Canada national team player of Nigerian descent, Dwayne De Rosario, but he opted to play at senior level for the national team of Guyana.

Nonetheless, he’s the latest striker with a Nigerian name making waves at the MLS club that former Super Eagles’ hitman, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (Obagol) also excelled with some years ago.
