Osahon Applauds NFF For Handing Madugu a Contract — But Warns Of Future Super Falcons Challenges

Robo Queens principal, Emmanuel Osahon, has commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for officially confirming Justin Madugu as head coach of the Super Falcons, describing the move as “a long-overdue but very positive step” for women’s football in the country.

Osahon said Madugu’s confirmation brings a sense of stability and recognition to the team’s technical structure. He praised the coach’s achievements so far, particularly leading the Super Falcons to silverware even before being given a formal contract, which he described as proof of Madugu’s competence and dedication.

Osahon further lauded Madugu’s preference for including home-based talents in his squad, noting that such an approach would boost the morale of players in the domestic league. However, he raised a note of caution regarding the team’s future, warning that Nigeria risks losing its identity if it continues to rely heavily on foreign-based players who never experienced the local league.

“With stars like Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and others nearing the twilight of their international careers, it’s time we start preparing for the next generation,” Osahon said. “If the local league doesn’t produce the next big names, we might struggle to sustain our dominance in Africa.”

He urged the NFF to build on Madugu’s appointment by investing more in grassroots programs and strengthening the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), arguing that long-term success would depend on a steady pipeline of homegrown talent.

“The Falcons have always represented excellence, but continuity is key,” Osahon added. “Madugu has shown he can balance experience with youth — now it’s up to the federation to provide the right support system.”

Osahon concluded by expressing confidence in Madugu’s leadership, saying that with proper backing, the Super Falcons can maintain their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
