Onyekuru’s effort gives Galatasaray a point against Fenerbahce

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru returned to the score sheet for defending champions Galatasaray as they closed the gap on leaders Istanbul Basaksehir to just five points in their 1-1 derby draw away at Fenerbahce.

In a game that featured two Nigerians, Victor Moses, and Henry Onyekuru, the visitors were hoping to claim their first away win over their city rivals whilst Fenerbahce were also hoping to keep their impressive derby form intact.

With the numerical advantage on their side, the visitors broke the deadlock, six minutes after the hour mark, when Onyekuru headed home a superb cross from Sofiane Feghouli to send the away fans into ecstasy.

But their joy lasted for just five minutes before 19-year-old attacker Eljif Elmass wrote his name on Fenerbahce history books as he equalized on the 71st minute to ensure both teams settled for a point.

The draw still leaves Galatasaray second with 56 points, five points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir which lost away at Besiktas on Saturday.
