Onuachu Reveals Secret Discussion With Gernot Rohr

FC Midtjylland of Denmark striker, Paul Onuachu has disclosed that he was not shocked to see his name in the Super Eagles’ list of invitees announced on Monday, because he had already been briefed about the development ahead of time by the coach, Gernot Rohr.

 

Sports247.ng gathered that Rohr called Onuachu up long ago to sound the lad out on his availability for the Nigerian national team, and the FC Ebnedei of Sagamu product said he did not hesitate to say ‘YES.’

 

Though there had been initial speculation about him switching national team allegiance to star for Denmark, Onuachu, who is Nigeria’s leading scorer abroad, with 14 goals from 21 games so far this season, said he was quick to accept Rohr’s offer, because it was what he dreamed off.
The youngster, who follows in the footsteps of Sylvester Igbonu and Uzonna Uzochukwu as the next player groomed at Midtjylland to get an Eagles’ invitation, said he had always dreamed of playing for Nigeria.

He wioll also join Ebenezer Oluwafemi Ajilore (Beijing 2008 Olympics) and Akeem Agbetu (Canada 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup) as Midtjylland’s contributions to Nigeria’s national teams over the years.

Onuachu, who is also famous for a cracking goal he scored in the Europa League against Manchester United some years back, added that he is glad to finally get a Nigeria call since moving to Denmark in 2012.

”I was called by the Nigeria coach and he told me he wanted to try me out for a while, and now he has found room for me on the team.
”I am super proud to be selected for the Nigerian national team. It’s something I’ve been dreaming for a long time.
“It’s just a good feeling to have achieved such a great goal in my career. It has been a goal for me for a very long time, but you have to be patient.
“I do what I can on the football field. I’m just glad it has succeeded,” Onuachu beamed with glee.
