Onuachu Gets Consolation, After Missing Nigeria’s AFCON Squad

Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has gained a symbolic kind of consolation after missing out on Nigeria’s squad to the Africa Cup of Nations.

While the tall attacker is still licking wounds from his inability to be part of the Super Eagles’ final list of 28 players, his youth club in Lagos made him happy by winning a grassroots football competition.

Onuachu remains in contact with the club named Young Stars FC of Satellite Town and he is a regular financial supporter of their programs.

That accounted for how the coach of the side, Osahon Emokpae quickly dedicated their conquest of Waste To Wealth Cup 2021 to Onuachu, in appreciation of his unflinching support to the club’s progress.

Their latest victory came via a lone first-half goal scored by Monday Eze at Ashiribo Field, along Mile 2/Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Apart from going home with the glittering gold-plated trophy at stake, Coach Osahon’s boys also took home some individual prizes, all of which were communicated to Onuachu.

It was indeed another feather of glory added to the fat closet of the team Onuachu played for as a child while growing up in Ojo area of Lagos.

Such it is that their latest moment of glory helped take off from his mind some pain of the double woes he is currently battling.

He has been ruled out of action for a month, after coping with a hamstring injury against Royal Antwerp, and that accounted for his exclusion from Nigeria’s AFCON 2022 roster.

With that setback in mind, Coach Osahon, along with his assistants, Hyginus Okoye and Seyi Adeboye, dedicated last weekend’s Cup victory as consolation for their former protege.

Osahon stated: “We thank God for this victory and for the Cup. We also thank Paul (Onuachu) for being there for us when we need him.

“I believe this Cup will make him happy, even in this tough time he is going through. Thanks to all the players and my colleagues that made it possible.”
