The Youth Church held its 6th year anniversary and one of the activities lined up for the celebration is the sports tournament at the NIJ ground with many people turning out to grace the event both church members and invited participants.

Speaking to the press as to why the church wants to invest in sports during the event, Pastor Samuel Abayomi said:

“The church is a living people and as a pastor, whatever will make my people happy is what I do one of the ways to get the attention of the perishing, especially among the young ones is through sports, and aside from that, it’s a means for relaxation. I know for some persons, they never had this opportunity before, to play in such a gathering like this, so it’s an opportunity for them to play and mingle with other youths.”

“We have six sporting activities, three indoor and three outdoor. We have table tennis, Ludo, scrabble, 100 meters, football, and also badminton.”

“This is the first edition as far as the youth church is concerned and there are plans for continuity even after this one, it’s not a one-off show. Now, we have started it and we know what it looks like so it’s either a quarterly thing or a yearly thing and this isn’t for only church members. We have people from different walks of life even Muslims, Jesus is for all so is the event,” he gave a lucid explanation.

“For the financial aspect, God has been our source and we appreciate the commitment of the members and well-wishers, all of us putting resources together made the program what it is now.”

“The youths can use this platform to step their career because it is a platform that encourages the giant in them to rise, I believe this isn’t the last time but a start of something better and greater.”

“We are now looking at operating a full-fledged football team for the church, that’s the next line of action that cuts across the younger teenagers, the older teenagers, and the youths,” he concluded.
