Omatseye Nesiama to Lead Officiating Team at African Games Athletics Events

Former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Omatseye Nesiama, has been bestowed the prestigious role of referee for the upcoming athletics events at the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana.

With the Games slated to kick off on March 8, the athletics spectacle is scheduled to captivate audiences from March 18 to 22.

Nesiama’s appointment comes as no surprise, given his illustrious track record as one of Africa’s most esteemed technical officials. Boasting the esteemed World Athletics Silver level status, Nesiama’s expertise has earned him recognition on the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Technical Officials Panel since 2017.

Notably, Nesiama’s influence transcends national borders, as evidenced by his pivotal role in nurturing Ghana’s technical officials in preparation for the Africa Games in 2021. His proficiency as a Technical Official has been showcased on numerous occasions, including stewardship at the Africa U-18, U-20 Championships, and Senior Athletics Championships.

A trailblazer in his own right, Omatseye Nesiama etched his name in history as the Competition Director for the inaugural Africa Youth Championships (U-18) held in Warri, Nigeria, in 2013. Furthermore, his accreditation as the first Nigerian to attain World Athletics Athletes’ Representative licensure in 2011 underscores his pioneering spirit and dedication to advancing athletics governance.

With a wealth of experience as a World Athletics certified technical officials’ lecturer and a member of the CAA Technical and Competitions Commission since 2014, Nesiama embodies a beacon of excellence in sports officiating.
