Olympic Games: Chelle Names Ozebagbe, Ortega as Olympic Eagles Assistant Coaches

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has appointed Bright Osehai Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as his assistant coaches with Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles as preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games begin.

Sports247 reports that Chelle, who also oversees the Olympic Eagles, selected the two young coaches as key additions to his technical team, describing them as among Nigeria’s emerging coaching talents.

The appointments are expected to strengthen the technical structure of the Olympic Eagles as Nigeria begins the process of building a squad capable of competing for qualification and success at the 2028 Olympic Games.

Ozebagbe currently serves as Technical Adviser of Ikorodu City, where he played a significant role in the Lagos club’s impressive campaign last season. Ikorodu City narrowly missed out on continental qualification after the final round of the Nigeria Premier Football League season.

His experience working at the top level of Nigerian domestic football is expected to provide valuable insight as Chelle builds his Olympic Eagles technical team.

Ortega, meanwhile, brings international coaching exposure to the setup. The UEFA-licensed coach has undergone training with the Scottish Football Association and currently serves as an assistant coach with Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, the country’s U-20 men’s national team.

His involvement with the Flying Eagles gives him valuable experience working with young Nigerian players, a quality that could prove important in the Olympic Eagles programme.

Chelle’s decision to combine the experience of both coaches reflects his intention to establish a technically strong and development-focused structure around the Olympic team.

With Ozebagbe and Ortega now confirmed as his assistants, Chelle has completed an important part of the technical setup ahead of the Olympic cycle.

The Olympic Eagles will face a demanding road towards Los Angeles, with qualification expected to require careful planning, player development and strong performances throughout the qualifying process.

For Chelle, the immediate task will be to establish a competitive team while creating a clear pathway for talented young players to progress into the Olympic squad and, potentially, the senior Super Eagles.

With the technical bench now taking shape, Nigeria’s preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games have officially entered a new phase.
