Nigeria’s para powerlifting icon, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, capped the country’s campaign at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh with a commanding performance, clinching the nation’s 11th and final GOLD medal of the tournament.
Competing in the women’s heavyweight category, the World Record holder and reigning Olympic Champion once again proved her dominance on the global stage as she lifted an impressive 165kg to secure the title. Her lift put her miles ahead of the field, with Kudratoy Koshpulatova of Uzbekistan settling for silver, while Jordan’s Asma Issa claimed bronze.
Oluwafemiayo’s victory not only reaffirmed her status as one of the sport’s most formidable athletes but also provided a fitting finale to Nigeria’s campaign in Riyadh, as Team Nigeria wrapped up the Games with a flourish.
Her gold adds to Nigeria’s strong reputation in para powerlifting, a sport where the nation continues to set global standards and produce world-class champions.
