Olopade Remains Confident in Super Eagles’ World Cup Qualification Dream

Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has voiced his unshaken confidence that the Super Eagles will secure their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the team’s current challenging position in the qualification standings.

Speaking in Abuja, Olopade acknowledged that Nigeria’s campaign has not gone as planned, but insisted that the team still has the quality and resilience to turn things around.

He described the World Cup ticket as “difficult but not impossible,” emphasizing that Nigeria’s football history is filled with late-stage comebacks and dramatic qualification moments.

“Anyone who knows the Super Eagles understands that we never give up,” Olopade said. “Yes, the road is rough, and the group is tight, but we still have everything to play for. I have total belief that this team will make it to the World Cup. Nigeria belongs on that global stage.”

Olopade further praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head coach Finidi George for their efforts in stabilizing the team after a turbulent period. He noted that qualification depends not only on tactics but also on self-belief and unity — two elements he says are returning to the squad.

He also called on Nigerians to rally behind the players rather than criticize them during this crucial period. “Support is what these boys need right now,” he added. “It’s easy to point fingers when results aren’t going our way, but real fans stand by the team in tough times. We must give them every encouragement to succeed.”

The Director General concluded by reaffirming the government’s continued commitment to providing the necessary support and logistics for the team. “This is a project of national importance,” Olopade stressed. “We will do everything possible to ensure that Nigeria’s flag is flying high in the United States, Mexico, and Canada come 2026.”
