The director-general of National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade has singled out for praise what he referred to as a remarkable blend of experienced stars with emergent young talents in Nigeria’s athletics team.
Sports247 reports that, speaking ahead of Tuesday’s commencement of events at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, Olopade expressed confidence that the squad will rank high at the end of it all on May 17th.
With a total of 41 athletes set to represent Nigeria at the six-day championship, Olopade charged the contingent to compete with confidence, discipline, dedication and patriotism as prestigious ambassadors of the great nation.
Olopade added, “Team Nigeria has continued to demonstrate tremendous growth and consistency on the continental and global stage, and we are confident that our athletes will make the country proud once again in Ghana.
“This championship is another opportunity to showcase the depth of talent we possess as a nation. We are particularly encouraged by the blend of experienced international stars and emerging young athletes in the team.”
Sports247 gathered further that the Nigerian contingent comprises 17 male and 24 female athletes, who will compete in 26 track and field events at the continental showpiece in the Ghanaian capital all through this week.
