Olopade Hails Nigerian Breakthrough As Odebode, Isah Secure Powerful Continental Paralympic Positions

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has applauded the remarkable international strides achieved by Nigerian sports administrators following the re-election of Sunday Odebode as President of the West Africa Paralympic Committee and his new appointment to the Board of the Africa Paralympic Committee (AfPC).

The election, held in Accra, Ghana, also produced another major victory for Nigeria with Suleiman Isah emerging as the new Treasurer of the AfPC, further strengthening Nigeria’s influence within the African Paralympic structure.

Speaking on the development, Olopade described the outcome as “another international milestone for Nigerian sports,” noting that it reflects the progressive environment the NSC continues to build for athletes and administrators to thrive at the highest level.

“I must commend Sunday Odebode for his re-election as President of the West Africa Paralympic Committee. It is a clear indication that he has been doing an exceptional job in promoting and advancing para-sports within the sub-region,” Olopade said.

He praised Odebode’s leadership as transformational, stating that as President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, he has consistently elevated standards, enhanced professionalism and driven medal-winning performances across Nigeria’s para-sports landscape.

Olopade also commended Suleiman Isah for his election as AfPC Treasurer and urged both officials to leverage their new positions to further advance Nigerian sport on the continent. He called for closer collaboration with the NSC in supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda for sports development as championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The election in Accra, which convened key delegates from across Africa, reaffirmed Nigeria’s expanding leadership within the continental Paralympic community. With a historic record of success, Nigeria remains one of the most influential nations in African sports and a strategic pillar within the wider International Olympic Movement.
