Olopade Admits: Our Responsibility Is To Eliminate Every Avoidable Distraction For Team Nigeria Athletes

Director general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade has admitted that his responsibility and that of other officials in the country’s contingent to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland is to ensure none of the athletes is distracted.

Sports247 reports that, while also acknowledging the need to give all coaches in each of the comnpeting sports disciplines free hands to tinker their athletes, Olopade, who is also serving as Nigeria’s chef de mission, promised a healthy and peaceful atmophsre at the team’s training camp in Aberdeen.

Olopade was on hand to welcome the first 54 athletes and officials on their arrival at Team Nigeria’s pre-competition training base, where the contingent will camp for 20 days before moving to the Games Village in Glasgow, ahead of the Games’ opening ceremony on July 23rd.

He disclosed that he had already inspected the accommodation, training and leisure facilities before he welcomed the contingent’s early arrivals, then reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to providing the most conducive camp and environment for the athletes to excel at the fothcoming competition.

Olopade projected into the camp’s merits and declared at lenght, “We want every member of Team Nigeria to remain focused because the nation believes in them, and we are confident they will make Nigeria proud in Glasgow.

“We are here because preparation is everything. Our athletes deserve the very best environment to train and compete. That is what we have provided in Aberdeen. Our responsibility is to eliminate every avoidable distraction and allow our athletes and coaches to concentrate fully on their performance.

“We have planned meticulously, and I am pleased with what I have seen since arriving at the camp. The atmosphere is excellent, the facilities are first-class, and the athletes are in high spirits.”

Sports247 gathered further that the contingent will spend three weeks at the pre-competition camp, in order to fine-tune preparations towards the start of healthy rivalry at the Commonwealth Games, which will take place from July 23rd to August 2nd.
