Oliseh Cautions Super Eagles Against Underestimating Mozambique

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has issued a strong warning to Nigeria coach Eric Chelle and his squad ahead of their clash with Mozambique, urging them not to underestimate the Mambas as the Africa Cup of Nations campaign intensifies.

Speaking on the challenge posed by Mozambique, the former Juventus midfielder stressed that complacency could prove costly for the Super Eagles, warning that any lapse in focus may result in an early exit from the competition in Morocco.

“I’m not going to go into details, but one thing I will tell you is this: anybody that underrates Mozambique should be ready to pick up the flight ticket back home,” Oliseh said.

Oliseh, who represented Nigeria at multiple AFCON tournaments and led the Super Eagles as head coach, described Mozambique as a disciplined and well-organised side capable of causing problems for any opponent on the continent.

“This is a very good team, and beating them should further boost our self-belief,” he added.

“Tactically, what is going to come at the Super Eagles is not going to be easy.”

Nigeria heads into the fixture as one of the tournament favourites, but Oliseh believes that reputation alone will not be enough against a Mozambique side known for their intensity, structure, and tactical awareness.

The former international’s comments underline the fine margins at the Africa Cup of Nations, where perceived underdogs have often produced surprise results. For Oliseh, respect for the opposition and tactical discipline will be key if Nigeria are to progress deep into the competition.

As preparations continue, the Super Eagles will be aiming to match confidence with caution, knowing that Mozambique represent a stern test rather than a formality. Oliseh’s warning serves as a timely reminder that at AFCON, no opponent can be taken lightly.
