Nottingham Forest’s new era under Ange Postecoglou began with defeat as Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Forest, missing Super Eagles defender Ola Aina who picked up a hamstring injury on international duty, struggled to contain Mikel Arteta’s side despite arriving in north London unbeaten in their last four Premier League away games.
Their poor record at the Emirates continued, having not won there since 1989.
Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring with a well-taken finish before adding his second to give Arsenal firm control. Victor Gyökeres sealed the points late on, ensuring the Gunners maintained their strong start to the season.
Postecoglou had only just taken charge following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo earlier in the week, inheriting a Forest side that has shown inconsistency in recent months.
The Australian tactician described having “a clean bill of health apart from Aina,” ahead of the match, but his first outing underlined the challenges facing him as he looks to lift the Tricky Trees up the table.
Forest began the campaign with a win over Brentford and a draw away to Crystal Palace but now find themselves with back-to-back 3-0 losses, following defeat to West Ham and now Arsenal.
