Okpekpe Race: World Athletics Trains Technical Officials In Benin

With 22 days to the kick-off of the much anticipated Okpekpe 10km Road Race, the World Athletics body, has initiated a ‘5-Day Technical Officiating Course’ as part of preparations for the elite labelled race.

The course which is expected to be declared opened by the sports-loving Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu will be conducted by the World Athletics Technical department and will hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City from Monday, 9th May to Saturday, 14th May 2022.

The World Athletics in their quest to ensure the 9-year-old event live up to its billings made this known on Friday, May 6th, 2022.

The course which will start at 9 am daily at the Press Center of the world-class Ogbemudia Stadium, is expected to be attended by technical officials who have been shortlisted and endorsed by the world athletics body specifically for the Okpekpe 10klm Race.

Okpekpe 10KM race takes place on Saturday 28th May 2022 and will witness athletes across the world with staggering prizes to be won.

Meanwhile, registration is still on for the race and interested foreign athletes have till May 7th to complete their registration via the official website ww.okpekperoadrace.com with local athletes permitted till May 20, to submit theirs.

All participating athletes will receive a running race vest, number bib, and chip while those who complete the 10km race right from the flag off at Apana Road to the finish line in Okpekpe will receive medals and certificates.
