Okpekpe Race Organizers Highlight Benefits Of Partnership With Supersport

During a meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, last week, Mike Itemuagbor, the new CEO of Multichoice South Africa, spoke about the tremendous success of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race.
He highlighted the crucial role played by Supersport, a broadcasting network, in beaming the race live to millions of homes across Africa and livestreaming it to millions more worldwide.
Itemuagbor emphasized that the Okpekpe race holds significant distinctions in its history. It was the first race to have its race course measured by a World Athletics accredited course measurer, demonstrating the event’s commitment to precision and accuracy. Additionally, it became the first race to be granted a bronze label status, a classification system established by World Athletics to recognize important road races globally.
Acknowledging the indispensable support of Supersport, Itemuagbor revealed that the race’s success was partly due to their partnership. Although live telecasts were not initially included in the World Athletics requirements, the organizers understood the significance of reaching a global audience and collaborated with Supersport accordingly.
To express his gratitude, Itemuagbor personally awarded Jury, the CEO of Multichoice South Africa, with a custom-made race medal. He commended Jury’s unwavering support for the Okpekpe race, recognizing his instrumental role in its achievements. Furthermore, Itemuagbor expressed his intention to discuss with Jury how they can further elevate the race and continue its growth trajectory.
