Okolie Wins in Lagos as Tetteh Quits After Two Rounds

Lawrence Okolie delivered a dominant performance to stop Ebenezer Tetteh after two rounds at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, on Sunday night.

Tetteh declined to answer the bell for the third round following sustained pressure from Okolie in their scheduled ten-round heavyweight main event.

The victory marked the fourth consecutive win for Okolie, 23-1 (17 KOs), since the 2016 British Olympian moved up to heavyweight.

The Hackney-born fighter transitioned divisions after losing a majority decision to Chris Billam-Smith in their 2023 WBO cruiserweight title bout.

Okolie set the tone early, rocking the Ghanaian challenger late in the opening round with a straight right hand.

The warning signs became clearer in the second round, when Okolie dropped Tetteh with a right-left combination, the only knockdown of the contest.

Tetteh showed visible discomfort as he walked back to his corner, and the fight came to an anticlimactic conclusion moments later when he chose not to continue.

The defeat extended Tetteh’s losing streak to three fights, dropping his record to 23-4 (20 KOs), with all four career losses coming against British heavyweights.

Another Olympian also impressed on the card, as Tony Yoka improved to 15-3 (11 KOs) with a first-round knockout of German heavyweight Patrick Korte, 23-6-1 (19 KOs).

Yoka ended the contest with a single uppercut to secure his fourth straight victory.
