Former Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder Austin Jay Jay Okocha has stressed that result is all that matters in football no matter how good a coach is.

The former Bolton Wanderers Midfielder and captain while speaking in a chat with his former teammate Ifeanyi Udeze on Sports Radio Brila FM, in relation to the two poor outings of the Super Eagles in the Nations cup qualifiers against the Sierra Leone National team both home and away, where Nigeria were held to disappointing draws in both affairs, telling the coach (Gernot Rohr) that its the result and performances that matter to Nigerians at the moment, regardless of how good he is, if results don’t come good, he will be under immense pressure to succeed as the Super Eagles head coach.

“For now, I will score him 7/10, because when he came in, things were not steady and he has steadied the ship now. He inherited an abandoned team and so for now, he is following his own direction, he has created his own team. But we all know football is all about results, of course, if results don’t go his way, our people will criticize him, you know everybody in Nigeria is a coach. But if results go his way, of course, we will praise him. Even if you are the best coach, if you don’t get results, you will be under pressure”.

When being asked if he backed the NFF’s decision to extend Gernot Rohr’s contract, the Amazing Legendary Nigerian midfielder supported the decision, saying it was a good step taken by the NFF.

“I am in support of the contract extension because for every country to be successful, you need continuity and you need direction. But if you keep hiring and firing, we wouldn’t be able to build the team. So I believe it is a good step. It is just for the result to improve”. He concluded.

Austin Jay Jay Okocha had an eventful career playing not only for the Super Eagles but also for Borussia Neunkirchen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Bolton Wanderers, Qatar SC, and Hull City.
