Okocha Denies Interest in NFF Presidency, Urges Fans to Ignore False Reports

Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha has denied reports linking him to an interest in contesting for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

In a statement released on his official Instagram page, Okocha described the circulating claims as false and misleading.

Okocha posted on his verified social media handles to address the issue.

“Hello everyone, I want to use this opportunity to say that the news and posts circulating are false.” He wrote .

He went further : ” I have not said or spoken to anyone about Nigerian football or any interest in becoming NFF president,” Okocha clarified.

The former Super Eagles captain noted that he is currently in Kigali, Rwanda, attending the SportsBizAfrica conference.

He appealed to the public to disregard the rumors and urged those spreading the false information to desist.

Okocha encouraged Nigerians to stay hopeful despite current challenges. “I know it’s not easy, but we’re all in this together. God bless, and please let’s stay strong,” he concluded.

The current board of the NFF, led by Ibrahim Gusau, has come under fire in recent days as the Super Eagles continue to struggle in their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria’s recent 1-1 draw against South Africa has put their qualification hopes on a cliffhanger, and they face the possibility of missing out on the FIFA World Cup for the second time in a row.

Jay-Jay Okocha is one of Nigeria’s finest players and was part of the first set of players to qualify the Super Eagles for the FIFA World Cup, where he and his teammates dazzled the world at USA 94.
