The Continental Tour meeting in Pretoria is expected to attract a strong field of elite quarter-milers and speed specialists, with Okezie facing stiff opposition from some of Africa’s finest.
Among those confirmed for the race are Muzala Samukonga, the reigning African 400m champion, South Africa’s duo of Zakithi Nene and Zandrion Barnes, as well as fellow Nigerians Udeme Okon and Emmanuel Bamidele. Gardeo Isaacs also adds depth to what is shaping up to be one of the standout races of the meet.
The 300 metres, though not a standard championship event, is widely regarded as a key test of both speed and endurance, often used by 200m and 400m runners to gauge early-season form.
For Okezie, the race presents an important opportunity to assess his conditioning and competitive sharpness against top-tier opposition ahead of a demanding athletics calendar.
The Nigerian sprinter, known for his strong finishes and experience over the 400 metres, will be aiming to make a statement performance on the continental stage.
His ability to maintain pace through the final stretch could prove decisive in a race that typically punishes any lapse in rhythm or race execution.
With a high-quality lineup and early-season momentum at stake, the Pretoria meeting offers more than just a race—it is a platform for athletes to assert dominance and build confidence.
For Okezie, a strong outing could set the tone for the months ahead and reinforce his status among Africa’s leading sprint talents.
